Our Comprehensive Swallowing Evaluations

At Mobile Swallowing Diagnostics, we provide state-of-the-art diagnostics to assess swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) in your residents:

Also known as a "modified barium swallow," this X-ray-based evaluation allows our specialists to observe the entire swallowing process in real-time. By assessing how different food and liquid textures move through the throat, we can make an accurate diagnosis of any swallowing impairments.

Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study (VFSS)

Swallow studies are conducted right at your facility using our state-of-the-art mobile equipment and experienced team. There's no need to transport your residents off-site, reducing disruption and risks.

What to Expect

At Mobile Swallowing Diagnostics, our evaluations utilize the Varibar line of barium products, chosen for their ability to mimic real food textures closely. This choice ensures that our assessments provide the most accurate reflection of a patient's ability to swallow under normal conditions. Barium, a key component of our swallowing tests, enhances the visibility of specific body areas on an X-ray, allowing for a clearer and more detailed examination.

Our team conducts Videofluoroscopic swallow studies, also known as Modified Barium Swallow studies, employing top-of-the-line X-ray machines, Barium, and the expertise of our Speech Language Pathologists alongside Radiologists. This comprehensive approach enables us to accurately assess oral, pharyngeal, and upper esophageal dysfunctions. By utilizing Barium, we can more clearly identify swallowing abnormalities (dysphagia), anatomical irregularities (such as upper esophageal diverticula, strictures, polyps, or cricopharyngeal bars), Achalasia, and reflux complications on X-rays.

Throughout this process, the comfort and safety of our patients remain paramount. Our clinicians are dedicated to addressing any concerns regarding radiation exposure or the barium mixture used during the evaluation, ensuring a positive and reassuring experience for both your staff and residents.
